Built on a strong foundation of “people first and foremost,” we are committed to providing quality service on and off the job. Evidenced by our history of generous giving, we take pride in being both a good neighbor and a well-respected corporate citizen. Deeply rooted in our local communities, we strive to make our region a better place to work and live.

Comfy Bear

Our company mascot is a frequent visitor to community events, festivals, parades and charitable outings.

A favorite among the young and young-at-heart, Comfy Bear is a warm reminder of our commitment to the communities we serve.

Consumer Advisory Council

Our utility, South Jersey Gas, maintains a Consumer Advisory Council made up of 24 social service agency representatives and six SJG employees. The Council has helped SJG develop enriching relationships with caring community members who serve, among others, low-income, elderly and disabled people. Council members serve as liaisons between their constituents and the utility, communicating programs and policies and working with our employees to ensure continued gas service.

The South Jersey Gas Consumer Advisory Council was formed over 20 years ago to stimulate open communication with our customers and our community partners. Formed in June 1983, it the longest standing such Council associated with any New Jersey utility. The organization has provided the opportunity for two-way dialogue hearing and acting upon consumer issues and concerns while simultaneously educating CAC members on utility issues and programs.

The CAC meets quarterly and holds a Fall Social Services seminar that is conducted as a consumer workshop open to social service agencies in southern NJ. The Social Services Seminar features presentations by prominent social, governmental and political figures on timely topics that impact social service agencies and their clients.

GATEKEEPER Program

Caring for the community extends beyond financial contributions. Through our Gatekeeper Program, we provide community support for the elderly. If an employee identifies a senior citizen in need (whether economically, physically or emotionally), information regarding that individual is dispatched to our Gatekeeper Program and the appropriate social service agency is contacted immediately. It’s just one more example of neighbor helping neighbor.

Radio Watch

Our utility, South Jersey Gas, proudly participates in Radio Watch™, a national program designed to make communities safer by using utility street workers to aid police in crime prevention and detection. Our street and service department workers are trained by local law enforcement officials to observe and report suspicious events, crimes in progress, traffic accidents, and other emergency situations.

Armed with two-way radios and cell phones, street department workers notify company dispatchers. When dispatchers receive a “Radio Watch emergency,” they notify the proper authorities with the location and circumstances of the situation. With our utility workers participating in the program, we help to provide a valuable service to local police and emergency personnel by acting as extra “eyes and ears” in our

AMBER Alert

We believe that children are our most precious resource. That’s why we participate in New Jersey’s AMBER Alert program. We recognize that our employees become invaluable eyes and ears that may save a child’s life in those desperate minutes and hours following an alert. In the event of an AMBER Alert, we immediately broadcast the information to our field crews and dispatch an e-mail to all employees with the details. For more information on AMBER Alerts posted nationwide, visit www.missingkids.com.

Safe Child Consortium

We are proud to be part of the Safe Child Fund of NJ, a joint effort initiated in 2004 between groups and agencies to promote community collaboratives and support programs that prevent child abuse and neglect.

Working with the New Jersey Department of Human Services, we have pledged financial resources to this plan and are committed to raising awareness of the Safe Child Fund through public relations efforts. We're helping spread the message of child welfare reform via news releases, our bill inserts, our website and numerous other communication vehicles. If you suspect a child in trouble, please call 1-877-NJ-ABUSE. For more information, visit www.state.nj.us/dcf/abuse/how/.

School Counts

Our utility, South Jersey Gas, launched its School Count! scholarship campaign in September 2004 by offering customers in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland Counties the opportunity to donate $1 a month through their gas bills to the scholarship fund. The scholarships will be awarded to deserving local high school graduates who plan to continue their education at Atlantic/Cape Community College and/or Cumberland County College.

NJ Shares

Our utility, South Jersey Gas, participates in NJ Shares, a statewide assistance program with no income requirements. Residents who need temporary financial help in paying their utility bills can qualify for a grant of up to $250. SJG offers its customer the opportunity to donate to the fund twice a year. For more information on this program, visit www.njshares.org.

Tender Loving Care

Employees of our utility, South Jersey Gas, may nominate a customer in need for a one-time grant of up to $250 through our internal TLC program. Nominations, which may be submitted anytime during the year, are reviewed by a 6-member committee of employees.
