FOLSOM, N.J. -- After a long, distinguished career serving Folsom, N.J.-based South Jersey Industries and its subsidiaries for 28 years, SJI Treasurer William J. Smethurst, Jr. announced he opted for early retirement. During retirement, Smethurst plans to focus upon completing his master's degree in Taxation while considering a direction to pursue among opportunities of personal interest.
"I've considered doing this for quite some time and when the opportunity presented itself, I knew the time was right," said Smethurst. "There are many other things I thought about doing over the years and among them is teaching. Having earned the financial security during my many years here, I'm now in a position to make a change and choose a new challenge during the last three to five years of my professional life."
South Jersey Industries Chairman, President and CEO Charles Biscieglia congratulated and thanked Smethurst for his many years of service to the company.
"Bill has been a valuable part of our organization's growth and development for a very long time," stated Biscieglia. "During his tenure, he has seen and participated in many important changes here. Along the way he has made some good friends. We will surely miss Bill and wish him well in his future endeavors."
In related news, SJI's Board of Directors appointed SJI Vice President Finance and Rates David Kindlick as Treasurer. Kindlick, a 46-year-old, Voorhees Township, N.J. resident, holds an MBA from Drexel University and has held numerous financial management positions within the organization since joining the company in 1979.
