FOLSOM, N.J. -- "With the building of this state-of- the- art production facility, it is our shared hope to promote economic growth in Atlantic City and in Atlantic County as well" and with those remarks, Charles Biscieglia, president of South Jersey Industries, placed a ceremonial shovel into the ground which symbolically began construction of the Marina Thermal Energy facility. The $45 million facility, scheduled to open in 2003, will provide hot and chilled water necessary for all of the adjacent Borgata casino's heating, cooling and domestic hot water. The plant, which will be situated on property adjacent to Borgata, is designed to be easily expandable. Significant additional revenue potential is possible based upon the development plans for the area which provide SJI's companies with outstanding prospects for expanded energy and related services in the burgeoning Renaissance Pointe area. "This is a tremendous growth opportunity for all of the stakeholders in this project", said Ed Graham, president of South Jersey Energy which will supply the natural gas for the new thermal facility. The production plant and the distribution system will be designed to accomodate the anticipated future growth in the Renaissance Pointe area. The 26,000 square foot facility is scheduled to open July 1, 2003 to coincide with the grand opening of the Borgata casino.
