FOLSOM, N.J. -- South Jersey Industries (NYSE: SJI) today declared its regular quarterly dividend of $0.37 for the fourth quarter of 2001. The dividend is payable January 4, 2002, to shareholders of record at the close of business December 10, 2001. This is SJI's 50th consecutive year paying dividends in either cash or stock.
In other actions, Charles Biscieglia, SJI's board chairman, announced the election of William J. Hughes to the South Jersey Gas (SJG) Board of Directors. The former U.S. Ambassador to Panama and 10 term Congressman (U.S. House 1975-1995) is currently Of Counsel to the law firm of Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti, LLP. The firm headquartered in Morristown, NJ has earned a national reputation for expertise in commercial law, trial and appellate litigation and bankruptcy. Hughes is also a Visiting Distinguished Scholar of Public Policy at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. "The election of former Ambassador Hughes to the SJG Board of Directors is a major accomplishment. His knowledge, breadth of experience and high profile throughout the region, will provide substantial benefits to SJG", said Biscieglia.
Hughes is active in the southern New Jersey region as a Board member of: Shore Memorial Hospital Foundation; the Richard Stockton College Foundation; Ocean City Tabernacle Association, and the Seabrook House Foundation.
Hughes has received numerous awards including: the U.S. Coast Guard's Commandant's Award for Public Service; the Department of the Army's Commander's Award for Public Service and the Older Women's League Lifetime Achievement Award.
