SOUTH JERSEY GAS TO BEGIN CONSTRUCTION IN PLEASANTVILLE AS PART OF SAFETY AND RELIABILITY ENHANCEMENTS

Download Press Release »

FOLSOM, NJ, January 13, 2017 – South Jersey Gas wants to advise residents, business owners, and motorists in the City of Pleasantville that work will begin on or about Monday, January 16 (weather permitting) to convert the natural gas infrastructure system from lower to higher pressure throughout the City. South Jersey Gas is performing this work to enhance its infrastructure as part of the Accelerated Infrastructure Replacement Program.

Installation of 2”, 4”, 6”, and 8” yellow plastic natural gas mains will take place along Main Street and New Road (Route 9) from Tremont Avenue to the Black Horse Pike. Work will also be performed on side streets, including West and East Bayview Avenues, West and East Wright Streets, Chestnut Avenue, West and East Edgewater Avenues, Willard Avenue, West Park Avenue, Maple Avenue, Portland Avenue, Shadeland Avenue, West Glendale Avenue, Fernwood Avenue, Lafayette Avenue, Shaw Avenue, and Doughty Road.

The program’s primary focus is the accelerated replacement of aging bare steel and cast iron mains with more durable plastic pipe, providing significant safety and reliability benefits for customers.

All excavations will be restored on a daily basis. A temporary repair will be made in most cases until the final restoration occurs. Openings in concrete may be temporarily patched with asphalt until final restoration with concrete occurs. Openings made in the grass during the winter season may not be restored until there is warmer weather in order to facilitate grass growth.  Final restorations and paving in the area are anticipated to be completed by June 2017. All restorations are completed in compliance with local and county regulations.

South Jersey Gas or its contractors will contact customers to gain access to properties with gas service to complete this work. Crews will work Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. There is also a possibility that work will be performed with the City’s approval during the same timeframe on some Saturdays to accommodate customer appointments. Additionally, portions of work along New Road (Route 9) and the Black Horse Pike may have to be performed at night to comply with New Jersey Department of Transportation lane closure restrictions. If residents have questions or would like more information about this project, please contact the South Jersey Gas Atlantic Division at (609) 645-2690, extension 6459 and reference the Pleasantville Grid 1 Project.
