Careers in Utilities Week

FOLSOM, N.J. – Oct. 17, 2019 – To celebrate the third-annual New Jersey Careers in Utilities Week, South Jersey Gas and Atlantic City Electric hosted events at two local technical schools – Cumberland County Technical Education Center and Atlantic County Institute of Technology.

More than 400 total students participated in the events, which featured Legacy Nexus Foundation Executive Director and Founder, Charles Wilson, a utility employee panel discussion and utility truck tours.

At both schools, David Robbins, President, South Jersey Gas and Susan Coan, Region Vice President, Atlantic City Electric spoke with students about the potential career opportunities in the industry.

“We are proud to support the communities where we live and work”, said Robbins. “That’s why we celebrated Careers in Utilities Week supporting the next generation of utility talent at schools in the neighborhoods we serve.”

Careers in Utilities Week provides New Jersey utilities with the opportunity to celebrate the industry and highlight the importance of having a prepared and highly trained workforce to support the continued delivery of safe, reliable, affordable service as well as the state economy.

"We understand the importance of workforce development and the amazing talent of the students at our local technical schools," said Coan. "We value opportunities like this to meet with students and are committed to investing in their future through efforts like our workforce development program that is actively training the future of the energy industry."

In 2016, the state of New Jersey designated every third week in October as New Jersey Careers in Utilities Week. The week is an opportunity to celebrate the utility industry and highlight the importance of having a prepared and highly trained workforce to support the continued delivery of safe, reliable, affordable service as well as the state’s economy.
