ATLANTIC CITY, NJ, October 15, 2021 – South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of SJI (NYSE: SJI), was named a recipient of the Distinguished Engineering Award by The New Jersey Alliance For Action (NJAA) on October 6, 2021. South Jersey Gas received the award, which was presented at the 8th Annual Distinguished Engineering Awards Breakfast, for its New Sentury Pump Station, a key $69M infrastructure project for gas utility services located in South Harrison Township.

NJAA brings together nearly 2,500 of New Jersey’s top corporate, labor, professional, academic and governmental representatives to improve the state’s economy through capital construction and infrastructure investment. The Distinguished Engineering Award honors individuals and organizations whose innovative engineering projects in these areas of interest create jobs, protect the environment, improve the economy and support a greater quality of life for citizens across the state.

“SJI and its subsidiaries, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, work hard to address the demands of their customers, communities and the environment in which we all live,” said Brent Schomber, President and COO, South Jersey Gas. “Thanks to South Jersey Gas’ talented team of engineers, contractors and organized labor workers who worked tirelessly to complete this project, I’m confident that the pump station will continue to deliver positive results and contribute to SJI’s efforts in delivering safe, reliable, affordable clean energy.”

Completed in April 2021, the New Sentury Pump Station regulates consistent pressure throughout South Jersey Gas’ distribution system. By doing so, the pump station helps to prevent gas supply interruptions caused by irregularities to the system, such as extreme weather, peak-demand events, man-made disruptions or other issues that may affect interstate pipelines. In addition, the project led to the creation of approximately 275 jobs to facilitate local trade and supervisory roles.

“I am thrilled to see South Jersey Gas recognized for this transformational infrastructure project. This new facility will benefit the over 400,000 customers who depend on South Jersey Gas for natural gas service and help meet both state and regional energy needs of the future,” said Jonathan Oliva, Manager of Engineering Services, South Jersey Gas.
