Folsom, NJ — Springtime is here and South Jersey Gas wants to help you prepare for warmer weather while helping you better manage your energy bills. Last October, South Jersey Gas implemented the Conservation Incentive Program (CIP), which is a ground-breaking conservation and energy efficiency pilot program that assists customers in managing their energy bills.
“Many people don’t realize that small changes can help them save money and the environment. As a community partner, SJG wants to provide residents with the tools to help them save not only in the winter-time but all year round,” states Bruce Grossman, SJG’s Manager of Energy Programs. Here are a few ways to save:
Get rid of hot air. Use an exhaust fan to blow hot air out of your kitchen while you’re cooking. The savings on your cooling costs outweigh the electricity used by the fan.
A dehumidifier can greatly add to your electric bill. Make sure you have the appropriate sized dehumidifier for your home.
Postpone laundry and dishwashing until nighttime to avoid generating extra heat in your home. Also, consider taking advantage of the warmer air and dry your laundry outside.
Consider installing a ceiling fan. During hot weather a ceiling fan will create a cool breeze and keep the air circulating in your home.
If possible, keep your room air conditioner out of the sun. Room air conditioners work best when kept cool. Installing one in a north-facing wall is usually ideal.
