Folsom,
NJ -
South Jersey Gas was honored by the American Gas Association
for outstanding achievements in promoting operations safety
during a presentation at AGA’s 2007 Operations Conference.
The AGA represents over 200 utility companies that deliver
natural gas to over 64 million homes, businesses and industries
throughout the United States.
SJG
was one of 13 member companies receiving awards given annually
to those with the lowest employee disability injury and illness
rates among companies of their size and type for the previous
year. To receive the award, the companies must have an employee
disability injury rate lower than the average rate in the
industry. SJG ranked lowest in the category of large, local
distribution companies for 2006.
SJG
was also one of 55 AGA member companies receiving a special
award for Excellence in Accident Prevention in 2006. SJG earned
an Accident Prevention Certificate by achieving a total Occupational
Safety and Health Administration rate of injuries and illnesses
below the industry average for companies of similar size.
“Safety
always has been and always will be the top priority for our
workforce,” explained Jeffrey DuBois, SJG’s senior
vice president, operations and sales. “We commend all
of our employees for their diligent attention to providing
safe natural gas service,” he added.
During
the conference, Eric Gerstel, SJG’s vice president of
distribution operations was presented with AGA’s Bronze
Award of Merit. This award reflects leadership, service and
dedication through active participation and involvement in
AGA’s Operating Section activities and committees. To
receive this award, one must be visible and make valuable
contributions that are recognized through a highly competitive
candidate nomination process. Nominees are thoroughly evaluated
and voted on by the Executive Committee of the Operating Section.
The Operating Section aids member companies in operating safely,
efficiently and reliably while serving the best interests
of customers and the general public.
