Folsom,
NJ - Summer weather creates challenges for everyone.
South Jersey Gas wants to help you deal with the heat and
save money by giving you a few inexpensive summer energy
conservation tips. Whether you own your home or rent, there
are a number of things you can do to save on the energy you
use every day.
Bruce Grossman, SJG’s Manager of Energy Programs explains, “Many
times saving energy at home is a matter of paying attention
to the little things. South Jersey Gas wants to give residents
the tools they need to be more energy efficient in the hot
summer months.” The following conservation tips require
little expense and can help significantly reduce energy costs
while keeping your home comfortable.
• Set your thermostat to 78 degrees or more during
the summer.
• Clear attic vents. If your home has an attic fan,
make sure it is functioning properly.
• Cook outdoors! Summer is a great time to barbeque
outside, which will avoid heating up the kitchen.
• Make sure window air conditioners are sized correctly.
If they are too small they will run constantly but not cool
the room. If they are too large they will use more energy
then necessary.
• The most important factor in cooling your home is
not to let it heat up in the first place. Good insulation,
caulking and weather stripping help keep the heat outside
during the summer.
