NJ - Sharon M. Pennington, vice president
of South Jersey Industries and chief operating officer for
SJI Services, LLC, recently was named by NJBIZ magazine as
one of New Jersey’s
50 Best Women in Business.
The 50 Best Women in Business award program honors New Jersey’s
most dynamic and accomplished women business leaders. The
award recognizes the impact women in business have made in
creating jobs and building and strengthening communities
in New Jersey. Pennington was selected based on her dedication
to business growth, personal and professional accomplishments,
commitment to community involvement and advocacy for women.

Pennington joined SJI in 2002 as director of human resources
and, as a result of her hard work and commitment to success,
was appointed to her current positions in 2008. In her present
roles, Pennington is responsible for the oversight of more
than 40 employees specializing in human resources, information
technology, corporate communications, government and community
relations, insurance and administrative services. Prior to
her employment at SJI, Pennington worked in the Atlantic
City and Las Vegas casino industries.
Pennington resides in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., with her
two children, Sydnie and Steven. She will be honored at the
50 Best Women in Business awards gala on Monday, March 30
at the Palace in Somerset.
An alumna of Rowan University, where she earned her undergraduate
degree, Pennington also holds a Juris Doctor from Rutgers
School of Law. She serves on the Human Resource Policy Committee
for the New Jersey Utilities Association and is a member
of the Society of Human Resources Management. Additionally,
Pennington sits on the advisory board of the Community FoodBank
of New Jersey, Southern Branch, and serves on the board of
directors and the “It’s Always Something” campaign
cabinet for Gilda’s Club South Jersey. Pennington is
also is a member of the Executive Women’s Forum and
the Women’s Leadership Initiative of Atlantic County.
Previously, she served on the board of directors for ARC
of Atlantic County and Shore Memorial Hospital Foundation.
