TeamChildren receives laptops from South Jersey Industries
Computers to help area kids develop computer literacy and other necessary skills

Audubon, PA - Give a child a computer, and watch his horizons expand and his future unfold.

On Wednesday, August 12, South Jersey Industries donated four refurbished laptop computers to TeamChildren’s Digital Divide Initiative, expanding the horizons of children throughout the Philadelphia region.

The Digital Divide Initiative has already provided low-cost, refurbished computers to more than 8,000 families throughout the region, benefiting over 30,000 children. The computers donated by SJI are expected to impact up to 20 children.

“Computers are rapidly becoming an essential tool in today’s changing world,” Robert Toporek, TeamChildren president, said. “By providing computers to families throughout the region, TeamChildren works to ensure that every resident is exposed to computer technology, promoting computer literacy. Through the generosity of supporters like South Jersey Industries, we are closer than ever to our goal of being the first region our nation where each family has its own computer.”

“South Jersey Industries is proud to help shape the future of the Philadelphia region,” Patrick Finnigan, SJI vice president of information systems, said. “The children that will benefit from these computers today are the ones who will lead our region tomorrow. By enabling them to gain the computer skills necessary in today’s world, these laptops help mold children into contributing members of society, who are ready and able to make valuable contributions to our communities.”

In addition to providing computers to disadvantaged children and families, TeamChildren has also donated computers to a number of non-profit organizations in Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, including the Ending Violence Program and the Education Works Program, and recently provided 30 computers to Saint Mary Magdalen Regional School in Millville, N.J.
