SJI Announces Winners of Spring Social Investment Program Grants

FOLSOM, N.J. – SJI (NYSE: SJI) is pleased to announce the recipients of the company’s bi-annual Social Investment program grants. Thirteen grants totaling $80,000 were awarded to non-profits throughout the state that reflect the diversity in purpose, geography and populations served that is vital to the success of our Social Investment program.
 
“Our Social Investment program aims to promote stronger communities and a more sustainable future for the residents of the communities served by SJI,” said Michael J. Renna, president and CEO, SJI. “These grant recipients reinforce the foundation of our neighborhoods, schools and families, and we are proud to be their partner in these incredible endeavors.”
 
The Spring 2018 recipients, listed in alphabetical order, are:
  • Alice Paul Institute – honoring the legacy of Alice Paul’s work for gender equality through education and leadership development.
  • The Appel Farm Arts & Music Center – providing people of all ages, cultures and economic backgrounds with a supportive, cooperative environment in which to explore the fine and performing arts.
  • AtlantiCare Foundation – generating charitable support to ensure AtlantiCare’s vision of building healthy communities was carried out to benefit current and future generations residing in southeastern New Jersey.
  • Burlington County Institute of Technology – a public, career and technical high school serving students of Burlington County and offering more than 30 career majors.
  • Clarifi – creating hope by helping people identify and secure the most important assets in their lives.
  • Family Service Association of South Jersey – improving the quality of life for individuals and families in the community by providing quality services resulting in a positive tangible impact.
  • Friends Village at Woodstown – providing comprehensive services for seniors that promote independence with choice, respect and security.
  • Gloucester County NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) – ensuring the political, education, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and eliminating race-based discrimination. Their ACT-SO student enrichment program prepares and recognizes African-American youth who exemplify scholastic and artistic excellence.
  • Let Me Learn – developing the human capacity of individuals and equipping learned to succeed by learning more effectively and efficiently.
  • Literacy Volunteers Association – Cape Atlantic Inc.  – providing volunteer-based literacy education for adults to become more successful employees, parents, consumers and citizens.
  • South Jersey Quail Project ­– providing, sustaining and expanding suitable habitats for quail, other upland birds and associated suite of species, while providing education about quail habitat and the species as a whole.
  • Wetlands Institute – promoting appreciation, understanding and stewardship of wetlands and coastal ecosystems through research, conservation and education programs.
  • YMCA of Salem County – organizing programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
 
Twice a year through the Social Investment program, SJI provides funding to qualifying 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations that demonstrate the ability to positively impact communities, while addressing needs that align with the company’s four strategic pillars of social investment:
  • Community Enrichment – improving quality of life through investments in the community to promote economic development, cultural appreciation and heritage resources.
  • Environmental Stewardship – protecting our environment and natural resources through conservation, wildlife protection, environmental education and awareness programs.
  • STEM and Vocational Career Development – encouraging and preparing students to pursue careers in STEM, eligible technical training with the potential to impact the utility/energy industry, job growth and development.
  • Health and Social Services – providing access and financial support to improve the health and wellbeing of the elderly, developmentally and/or physically disabled, veterans and at-risk families, individuals and/or youth.
