Early Careers

Early Careers

Mentoring, networking, gaining hands-on experience and industry knowledge, and having the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our business and in our communities are all exciting ways that we welcome our early-career professionals at SJI.

Regardless of the position, each of our early career programs has a robust schedule of events built with your professional development in mind.

Pre-Campus Talent

Partnership with the Atlantic County Institute of Technology

In collaboration with the Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT), SJI offers local high school seniors the opportunity to gain real-life experience in the energy utility field. Since being initiated in 2020, students have interned with our subsidiary South Jersey Gas in their Geographic Information System (GIS) and Records departments.

Junior Achievement of New Jersey

Junior Achievement is a nonprofit organization that provides young people with the skills necessary to kickstart their economic success, plan their futures, and make smart academic choices. As a long-time supporter of Junior Achievement, SJI has worked closely with the organization’s New Jersey chapter to sponsor and host events, such as the JA Inspire Virtual Career Expo. On this interactive digital platform, students attend presentations, explore company-sponsored career booths, and interact with company representatives using chat features.

Mark Cuban’s Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp

SJI’s commitment to providing critical resources to initiatives that support the region’s next generation of technology leaders has led to a partnership with the Mark Cuban Foundation and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to host introductory Artificial Intelligence Bootcamps for Atlantic City high school students at the South Jersey Gas headquarters. Over the course of four half-day sessions, students have the opportunity to learn from industry leaders through guest speaker presentations and participate in interactive lessons on topics such as machine learning and chatbots.

Check out what our CIO, Leonard Brinson, has to share about our partnership with Mark Cuban’s AI Bootcamp here!

  • Improve current skills.

POWER Leadership Development Program

The POWER Leadership Development Program is a two-year rotational program that prepares early-career individuals with demonstratable abilities and experiences in leadership, communication, innovation, and initiative to become future leaders within our organization.

As an employee selected for the POWER Program, you will have the exciting opportunity to rotate through three critical areas of our company. During each rotation, SJI provides both formal and on-the-job training to help employees develop their skills and abilities within each respective business area. As a result, POWER employees become vital assets to our organization and are able to leverage their newly acquired leadership skills to think big, lead and inspire, and deliver results.
