South Jersey Gas Cuts Ribbon on new Pump Station to Improve Utility Service Dependability

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., July 1, 2021 – Today South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of South Jersey Industries (NYSE: SJI), cut the ribbon on the New Sentury Pump Station located in South Harrison Township, NJ. The new $69M pump station is a key infrastructure project for utility services in Southern New Jersey that will help ensure consistent delivery of natural gas in the event of severe weather or threats to pipeline supply chain.
South Jersey Gas welcomed state and local elected officials as well as construction and organized labor partners to the ribbon cutting ceremony, which included a tour of the new facility.
“This pump station is an example of how South Jersey Gas and South Jersey Industries are working hard to modernize our infrastructure for the benefit of our customers and to help our state and regional meet the energy needs of the future,” said Melissa Orsen, SVP of SJI, president and COO of South Jersey Gas. “We thank our construction and organized labor workers, as well as our partners from South Harrison Township and Gloucester County who helped make this project possible.”
The New Sentury Pump Station regulates consistent pressure throughout the gas distribution system. The station helps mitigate irregularities caused by extreme weather or peak-demand events which can affect customers’ ability to heat their homes.
“We know that energy reliability is essential for the well-being of our New Jersey residents and critical for economic development in our state,” said New Jersey Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-Gloucester County) who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.
