South Jersey Gas to Host Mark Cuban Foundation Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp this Fall

FOLSOM, NJ, October 21, 2022 – South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of SJI (NYSE:SJI), is excited to partner with the Mark Cuban Foundation and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to host an Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp for high school students at its Atlantic City headquarters from October 22, 2022, to November 12, 2022. South Jersey Gas is proud to serve as a host company for the second consecutive year, furthering its commitment to promoting a broader range of professional opportunities for Atlantic County’s future workforce.

“The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs is pleased to see South Jersey Industries take the lead in supporting this year’s Mark Cuban Foundation Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp for Atlantic City and Union Township youth,” said Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, who also serves as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA). “DCA was instrumental in bringing the AI Bootcamp to Atlantic City last year and is incredibly thankful that South Jersey Industries has helped to bring it back for a second year. Now even more students will be positively impacted by this innovative educational program.”

What: Mark Cuban Foundation Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp Initiative, a nationwide learning program that increases high school students understanding of AI.

Background:
South Jersey Industries is excited to partner with the Mark Cuban Foundation and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to host the AI Bootcamp program in Atlantic City, marking the second time that the program will be conducted in the area. The AI Bootcamp enables high school students to increase AI literacy and understanding over the course of four half-day sessions. Each session includes a guest speaker Q&A discussion, interactive lessons on topics such as machine learning and chatbots and a lab exercise facilitated by SJI’s staff. As a committed partner to our communities, South Jersey Gas is proud to host this program to promote job growth and a diverse talent pool within the Atlantic County region.

Facts about the program:

  • Founded by Mark Cuban in 2019, the AI Bootcamp Initiative has hosted free camps for students in cities such as Philadelphia, Houston, Pasadena and Atlantic City.
  • This year, camps will be brought to more than 550 students in over 20 cities.
  • The Foundation’s goal is to have 1,000 students graduate from AI Boot Camps each year by 2023.
