SJI Joins U.S. Army’s “Partnership for Your Success” Job Recruitment Program

FOLSOM, NJ, September 22, 2022 – SJI (NYSE: SJI) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the U.S. Army to create a talent pipeline for hiring military personnel. “Partnership for Your Success” (PaYS) is a strategic partnership between the U.S. Army and a cross-section of corporations, companies and public sector agencies. This unique program is part of the Army’s effort to partner with America’s business community and reconnect America with its Army.
To mark the start of this partnership, SJI hosted representatives from the Army’s Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion on September 22, 2022, for the ceremonial signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
Lieutenant Colonel Dion Hall, Battalion Commander of the Mid-Atlantic Army Recruiting Battalion delivered the keynote address before signing the MOU with SJI representative Adam McLaughlin, an Army veteran and the Sr. Director of Regional Operations at SJI subsidiary Elizabethtown Gas.
“Support of the PaYS program will help me reassure soldiers’ parents that the Army reinvests in their sons and daughters, while preparing them for the future,” said Lt. Colonel Hall.
Soldiers who participate in the PaYS program may select up to five partner employers where they will be guaranteed job interviews. By signing a partnership agreement, SJI welcomes this new opportunity to provide employment to veterans as part of its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
“I’m excited that as a company, SJI not only recognizes the importance of supporting our troops, but we also understand the benefits of hiring service men and women with the skills necessary to drive innovation,” said McLaughlin who served the U.S. Army from 1989 until 2004 and is a combat veteran of Afghanistan.
In addition to participating in the PaYS program, SJI is actively engaged in supporting programs for veterans in the community and those it employs. In 2020, SJI established the Veterans Engagement Team (VETS), an employee resource group that works to increase employee awareness of veterans throughout the company and support the veteran community in the South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas service territories. VETS also works to develop future company leaders, increase participation by our veterans in recruiting and incorporate the life experiences of our veterans to improve company business practices.
Each year, SJI’s VETS hold a food drive to support local military families. In 2022, they helped collect nearly 4,900 lbs. of food, enough to feed approximately 270 families, during their second annual food drive for the Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program. In November 2021, the VETS team hosted SJI’s first Veterans Career Fair designed for veterans and their families, which the company plans to make an annual event.
