SJI Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Sixth Annual Day of Service

FOLSOM, NJ, January 17, 2023 – Yesterday, SJI held its sixth annual Day of Service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Since its inception, SJI’s Day of Service has empowered its employees to participate in local, community-centric volunteerism and support.
“At SJI, we value community, service and inclusion,” said Shawn Abner-Purnell, chief diversity officer for SJI. “I’m proud to see the growing number of employees who champion these values during MLK Day by providing meaningful support to the communities we serve.”
As part of Stockton University’s Annual Day of Service, SJI’s employees engaged in in-person community service projects in Galloway, Hammonton, Manahawkin and Atlantic City. Projects included making cards and crafts for older adults, school children and community members, and distributing food and critical supplies to local organizations. Employees also completed various virtual service projects led by Jersey Cares. To further demonstrate its commitment to community service, SJI also encouraged employees to donate to the company’s MLK Day of Service Winter Clothing Drive.
