SJI Celebrates National Volunteer Month; Honored with Community Service Award from CIANJ

4/17/2026

National Volunteer Month is observed each April and shines a spotlight on individuals and organizations that dedicate their time and resources to strengthening their communities through volunteerism.

At SJI, giving back is an important part of our culture, and we’re proud to recognize our commitment to supporting our local communities. SJI provides a variety of volunteer options, including the Annual MLK Day of Service with Stockton University, the Nature Conservancy, and NJ Audubon Society. We encourage our employees to come together to give back to our communities and support causes that are meaningful to them and the communities we serve.

How SJI Supported Communities in 2025

In 2025, we remained steadfast in our commitment to driving community impact, which is reflected in the highlights below:

  • Our Employee Resource Groups, which are open to all employees, and employee volunteers completed 3,335 volunteer hours.
  • SJI and its subsidiaries, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, contribute $1 million in charitable giving and community support annually.
  • Supported 5 organizations through our Employee Giving Campaign: Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), New Jersey Veterans Network, The Nature Conservancy, The South Jersey Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE), and New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC).
  • As part of SJI and its subsidiaries South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas’s charitable giving, the company supports local nonprofits and organizations, such as local medical and first responder agencies, youth sports and recreation programs, university foundations and economic development organizations.

Honored by CIANJ for our Community Impact

This month, SJI was recognized as a Companies that Care honoree for Volunteering & Community Service, underscoring our commitment to giving back to the communities we serve.

SJI was among several organizations recognized at the award ceremony, held on April 16 at Glen Ridge Country Club. The annual award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated outstanding commitment through volunteerism and charitable giving, supporting New Jersey communities in meaningful ways — from addressing food insecurity and advancing health programs to providing scholarships and promoting animal welfare.

Making a Difference Every Day

National Volunteer Month serves as a reminder that small, consistent acts of service can make a big impact. This and every month, we recognize the generosity, compassion, and leadership of our employees and honor their dedication to making a difference every day.
