This May, SJI continued its longstanding tradition of participating in the Heart Walk of Southern New Jersey in Ocean City, NJ.
Community spirit was on full display in South Jersey as approximately 100 SJI employees took part in the event and helped raise $34,000 for the American Heart Association.
The Heart Walk serves as a chance to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke while encouraging healthier habits and stronger connections across the region. For SJI, the event was also a meaningful way to support the Southern New Jersey community beyond the workplace.

“SJI is proud to participate in the Heart Walk, celebrating our heart heroes and caring for our community,” said Wes Becker, Vice President, Customer Experience, SJIU. “Whether it’s providing education to individuals about heart disease or raising essential funds for lifesaving research, every effort counts, and we are immensely grateful to our employees and the communities we serve for their support.”
SJI also served as a host for the official American Heart Association Heart Walk Torch Journey, welcoming the torch to its Folsom headquarters on May 12. The gesture helped build momentum for the walk and gave employees and neighbors another way to connect with the cause before event day. During the visit, SJI organized a fundraiser at its 3 headquarters locations to support critical initiatives, including enhanced CPR training accessibility, improved bystander preparedness, and vital research funding.

This initiative culminated with the torch’s journey to the final Heart Walk stage, where it was presented to SJI as the top fundraising host company of the year.
Events such as this highlight the role local organizations play in supporting public health and community well-being. Just as important, these events remind us that community impact is often built through small but consistent actions: showing up, volunteering, donating, and encouraging others to do the same.
To all employees who donated, participated, and supported the event, thank you for coming together in support of the communities we serve.
