Supporting education and creating opportunities for future leaders are longstanding priorities for us at SJI. Our Employee Resource Group, the South Jersey Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE-SJC) – which is open to all SJI employees – champions our core values by supporting and empowering local communities through mentorship opportunities, educational awareness, networking events, and scholarships. This year, the group proudly continued those efforts through the Chapter’s 13th Annual Scholarship Golf Outing, where they awarded $71,000 in scholarships and educational stipends to local students pursuing higher education in science, technology, engineering, math or related fields.
The funding for the scholarships was made possible through the Chapter’s 13th Annual Scholarship Golf Outing, held May 20 at Blue Heron Pines Golf Course in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, along with contributions from SJI’s Employee Giving Campaign. Together, these efforts continue to create meaningful opportunities for the next generation of innovators and leaders. The outing brought together AABE members and employees for a day of friendly competition and meaningful connection.
AABE-SJC awarded $50,000 in scholarships to 16 graduating high school seniors preparing to continue their education this fall. An additional $21,000 in stipends was awarded to 30 current undergraduate students who previously received AABE-SJC scholarships, helping them continue their academic journeys and stay focused on achieving their goals.
