SJI Continues Commitment to DEI+B by Hosting Summit on Building Trust, Fostering Safety, and Raising Cultural Awareness

FOLSOM, NJ, September 30, 2025 – Last week, SJI hosted its 3rd annual DEI+B Summit, with topics on building team trust and connecting physical with psychological safety in the workplace. The event featured networking sessions, a panel discussion in partnership with SJI’s Safety department, a keynote address, and tabling with Employee Resource Groups, Supplier Engagement, and Wellness. The full-day event provided employees of SJI with safety tips and insights to support the company’s mission of encouraging a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where all employees thrive.

“Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI+B) are part of our DNA at SJI, and we are committed to advancing this work at all levels of the organization,” said Dr. Brittany Lewis, DEI+B Program Manager, SJI. “The Summit is an important opportunity to engage employees across the company, underscoring our dedication to building community, promoting awareness through education, and aligning our business priorities with our belonging efforts. By linking our safety initiatives with DEI+B, we highlight that true workplace well-being requires both physical and psychological safety.”

SJI’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategy is rooted in three tenets: talent, supplier engagement, and community partnerships. These tenets continue to act as the foundation of its program. SJI supports this strategy by helping employees connect with one another in meaningful ways, offering helpful inclusion programming and development resources, providing education on wellness programs, and encouraging meaningful discussions.

“Regardless of your title or role, we all share a responsibility to encourage and build trust within our teams and throughout the company,” said Julie Kratz, CEO, Next Pivot Point, and keynote speaker. “We need to step away from always surrounding ourselves with people we feel comfortable, communicate with individuals on our teams who are different than us to better understand them and create an environment where every voice is valued and every person is empowered to grow.”

Beyond this event and the DEI+B team’s efforts, SJI’s Employee Resource Groups focus on inclusion and belonging efforts throughout the organization. SJI has seven Employee Resource Groups, including the American Association of Blacks in Energy – South Jersey Chapter (AABE); Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI); Veterans Engagement Team (VETS); Green Team (GT); Power of Pride (PoP); Emerging Leaders (EML); and Hispanic Organization for Latino Achievement (HOLA).  These groups are dedicated to helping drive employee engagement, fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace, developing future leaders, and broadening partnerships in the communities we serve. Employee Resource Groups are available for all employees to join.
