SJI Hosts Community Food Drive and Employee Events in Honor of Veterans and Fallen Heroes
FOLSOM, NJ, May 23, 2025 – In observance of Memorial Day, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, two subsidiaries of SJI, held a series of events to honor our veterans and fallen servicemen and women.
SJI Employee Resource Group Organizes Food Drive
The Veterans Engagement Team (VET), an employee resource group at SJI, organized a food drive in collaboration with the Service to the Armed Forces and American Red Cross. Employees donated nearly 2,000 pounds of nonperishable items to benefit active military, veterans and families at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The Service to the Armed Forces program provides home comforts and critical services on bases and in military hospitals, and also supports military families during deployments and emergencies. The Veterans Engagement Team, in addition to all of SJI’s employee resource groups, is open to all employees.
“SJI is proud to partner with the Service to the Armed Forces and American Red Cross to feed the military and veterans through our food drive,” said Mike Bizzoco, Vice President, Information Technology, SJI. “These brave men and women have served and sacrificed for our country, so it is rewarding to see the community come together for them in support of a great cause.”
VETs also sponsored the 4th Annual Jo Carney drive to collect items for the Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland, NJ. Our employees donated toiletries, clothes, puzzles, and activity books to offer small lifestyle improvements for the residents living there.
SJI Plans Memorial Day Events
SJI employees set up a missing persons table at their Atlantic City, Green Lane and Folsom locations to commemorate the more than 81,000 missing Americans from the Korean War, WWII, Vietnam, Cold War, Gulf War and other conflicts. The table will be on display through May 30.
On May 20, employees distributed folded flag and poppy pins while sharing the true meaning of Memorial Day at their Atlantic City, Green Lane and Folsom locations. They also had the opportunity to write down the names of friends and family members who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country and display them on a Wall of Honor.
