SJI Celebrates the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with Annual Day of Service

FOLSOM, NJ, January 20, 2026 – With “community” as a core value, SJI and its subsidiaries, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, continued the company’s tradition of honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with its ninth annual Day of Service as part of Stockton University’s Annual Day of Service and Jersey Cares.

“At SJI, we value community, service, inclusion and belonging,” said Dr. Brittany Lee Lewis, DEI+B Program Manager, SJI. “I’m proud to see the growing number of employees who champion these values during MLK Day by providing meaningful support to the communities we serve.”

SJI’s employees participated in community service projects in its Galloway, Atlantic City, Hammonton, locations. Projects included making cards and crafts for older adults, school children and community members, and distributing food and critical supplies to local organizations. 

Shawn Cooper, Project Coordinator for Community Programs & Leadership and Chair of the 2026 22nd Annual MLK Day of Service Program at Stockton University, stated, “SJI has been one of our consistent community partners at our Day of Service.  We welcome and value the engagement of SJI employees and their family members, and we applaud them for their time and commitment to supporting Stockton and improving our community through service.”

Stockton University’s Annual Day of Service brings together students, community members, and community partners, and often encompasses over 15 projects both on- and off-campus. The goal of Days of Service is to provide an intensive, community-wide experience for students and to introduce them to partners with whom they can serve long-term and develop an ongoing relationship. The Jersey Cares Day of Service engages people across the state to embody Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision and bring people of all ages and backgrounds together, strengthening their communities and building a stronger New Jersey.
