Inspiring the Next Generation on Take Your Child to Work Day

South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, subsidiaries of SJI, recently hosted “Take Your Child to Work Day” on April 23 at SJI’s three corporate offices in Folsom, Atlantic City, and Green Lane.

The event is designed to give children ages 5 to 18 a behind-the-scenes look at the professional world, where they can observe their parents' daily responsibilities and see how their education connects to real-world careers. From learning how natural gas is delivered to observing how marketing campaigns are created, children gained a greater appreciation for the work SJI employees do each day to keep energy flowing throughout their communities.

“We are proud to welcome the children of our employees to SJI for ‘Take Your Child to Work Day,’” said Steven Cocchi, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, SJI. “By sharing our work, we hope to inspire them to pursue their passions and see the vital role our industry plays in the communities we serve.”

Parents set up dedicated workspaces alongside their own, assigned children simple tasks, introduced them to colleagues, and led them on tours of the office. Many used the occasion to share stories about their career paths and roles at SJI. The event welcomed not only employees’ children but also grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other children in their lives. Lunch was provided for parents and children to enjoy together.

"Take Your Child to Work Day" reflects SJI’s ongoing commitment to workforce development, education, and community engagement. SJI looks forward to continued opportunities to inspire and champion the next generation of leaders.
