FOLSOM, NJ, October 22, 2021 – SJI (NYSE: SJI) is celebrating Careers in Utilities Week by furthering its commitment to providing critical resources to initiatives that support the region’s next generation of technology leaders. From October 23 to November 13, SJI will partner with the Mark Cuban Foundation and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to host introductory Artificial Intelligence Bootcamps for 20 Atlantic City High School students at the South Jersey Gas headquarters.

Founded in 2019, the Mark Cuban Foundation Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp is a nationwide initiative offered to high school students interested in artificial intelligence and technology. This year’s programming will be delivered to 320 students in 13 cities, including Philadelphia, Detroit, Des Moines and for the first time in the program’s history, Atlantic City.

“We want to give Atlantic City’s youth broader opportunities to realize their full potential. The Artificial Intelligence Boot Camp is one such opportunity that can really change a young person’s life trajectory,” said Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, who also serves as the Commissioner of New Jersey’s Department of Community Affairs.

Over the course of four half-day sessions, students will have the opportunity to learn from industry leaders through guest speaker presentations and participate in interactive lessons on topics such as machine learning and chatbots. At the end of each session, students will work through a lab exercise with the support of SJI’s employees and ThoughtSpot, a technology company specializing in business intelligence software.

“Developing technology leaders who think big, lead and inspire will be a vital step in accomplishing New Jersey’s goal of a clean energy future,” said Leonard Brinson Jr., Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “I’m confident that the Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp will only further this mission, leading the region and the environment in which we live to a better today and tomorrow.”

SJI has long prioritized making early career opportunities accessible to young individuals interested in the energy industry. SJI works closely with the Atlantic County Institute of Technology and Junior Achievement of New Jersey to provide internships and networking opportunities to high school students throughout Southern New Jersey. In addition, SJI offers the IGNITE internship program and the two-year rotational POWER Leadership Development Program for college students and early-career professionals.
