SJI Employee Veterans Hold Food Drive to Help Military Families

Newsroom > South Jersey Industries News

FOLSOM, NJ, March 9, 2022 – SJI (NYSE: SJI) salutes our Veterans Engagement Team (VETS) for helping collect nearly 4,900 lbs. of food, enough to feed approximately 270 families, during their second annual food drive for the Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program.

As part of its ongoing community service efforts, SJI and its utilities, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, encouraged customers and employees to drop off non-perishable items at the Elizabethtown Gas headquarters and set up drive-thru collection points throughout Southern New Jersey on Saturday February 26. Volunteers then delivered several truckloads of food to the Red Cross for distribution at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

VETS is an employee resource group at SJI that supports the personal growth and professional development of former servicemen and women who have transitioned to the workforce. The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program provides home comforts and critical services on bases and in military hospitals, and also supports military families during deployments and emergencies.

“As a Red Cross Board member, I know food scarcity impacts many individuals and this includes military families as well. I am so proud to see my SJI colleagues, led by our team of veterans, step up every time we have a call to action,” said Donna Schempp, President, SJI Renewable Energy Ventures.

SJI would like to thank all the generous donors and volunteers who made the food drive a success.
