FOLSOM, NJ, November 28, 2023 – In recognition of Giving Tuesday, SJI is excited to partner with its employees to donate more than $330,000 in critical support to local, regional, and statewide community-based organizations.

SJI’s annual Employee Giving Campaign empowers the company’s more than 1,200 employees to enrich local communities by pledging a monetary contribution to a selection of nonprofit organizations. The company further provides a dollar-for-dollar match for all employee donations/pledges.

“This year, our employees raised the most donations in our company’s history,” said Mike Renna, President and CEO, SJI. “I’m incredibly proud of our employees’ generosity and our shared commitment to make a positive impact in the communities we serve.”

SJI’s 2023 Employee Giving Campaign recipients include:
  • American Red Cross New Jersey
  • Community Food Bank of New Jersey
  • Covenant House
  • New Jersey Veterans Network
  • The Nature Conservancy
  • The South Jersey Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE)

“The Red Cross depends on the generosity of its donors to fulfill its mission. We are extremely grateful to SJI and its employees, because their donation ensures that we can support people when needed, whether that’s disaster relief, lifesaving blood, critical services for military families and veterans or training like CPR,” said Rosie Taravella, regional CEO, American Red Cross of New Jersey.

"We at CFBNJ are incredibly grateful to SJI and its very generous employees for this matching gift," said Elizabeth McCarthy, President & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. "It's especially meaningful because it represents giving from the company and from so many individuals. In total, the commitment will help us provide more than 245,000 meals for South Jersey neighbors in need."

"Covenant House New Jersey is thrilled to be the recipient once again of SJI's employee giving campaign and the generous company match,” said Jennifer Williams, Senior Director of Development, Covenant House New Jersey. “The funds will be put directly to use to keep the lights on and doors open for the thousands of young people Covenant House New Jersey serves throughout the state each year. We are blessed by the giving of SJI's dedicated employees and are grateful for another year of partnership. "

“We are immensely grateful to SJI for its generous support,” said Frank “Doc” Schupp, Director of Veteran Outreach, New Jersey Veterans Network. “This donation not only strengthens our mission to serve our veterans but also exemplifies the true spirit of community and compassion. Together, we’re making a lasting impact on the lives of those who’ve sacrificed for our nation.”

“The Nature Conservancy is thrilled to have the support of SJI’s employees and leadership as we work across New Jersey to reconnect rivers, restore salt marshes, protect wildlife habitat, and increase green space in cities,” said Dr. Barbara Brummer, The Nature Conservancy’s New Jersey State Director.

“The South Jersey Chapter of AABE is incredibly thankful for the ongoing support from the employees of SJI,” said Will Smith, AABE South Jersey Employee Executive Sponsor and VP of Enterprise Project Management, SJI. “The funds from this year’s campaign will go directly to the high school scholarship program AABE runs each year to provide financial assistance to students in South Jersey.”

In addition to the money raised via the Employee Giving Campaign, SJI and its subsidiaries, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas provide meaningful aid to local nonprofits and organizations that deliver critical support to those in need. These organizations include local medical and first responder agencies, youth sports and recreation programs, university foundations, economic development organizations, and local non-profits in South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas’s service territory.
